A considerable portion of AP2’s capital is invested in Swedish and foreign equities, making the Fund a significant shareholder. Shareholder commitment and interest in a company’s long-term development is a crucial requirement for better value growth. AP2 is actively engaged in promoting good corporate governance, high ethical standards and an enlightened environmental approach.
AP2’s corporate governance work is mainly focused on companies and areas where the Fund estimates to have the best opportunity to influence and to create value and which have the greatest long-term economic impact on the portfolio. In Sweden, the Fund primarily work with corporate governance issues in companies in which the Fund is one of the largest owners and/or in companies where most capital is invested. AP2 also promotes good corporate governance by collaborating with other investors on matters of principle and through active participation in the development of policies, regulations and standards.

Corporate governance in foreign companies the Fund mainly do by voting in a selection of these holdings and through follow-up dialogue with some of the companies. In this dialogue the Fund describes the views on active ownership and where applicable, an explanation of why the Fund does not support a specific proposal from the company’s board of directors.
Collaboration with other investors is important to achieve success in the dialogue with the company, but also to promote the development of responsible investment. Work on corporate governance in foreign companies will also take place in selected partnership.
