About AP6
AP6 has concluded its operations
In accordance with the Parliament’s decision, operations of the Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund (AP6) were concluded at the end of 2025, after 30 years. Through its investments in private equity, AP6 and its employees have generated strong returns for the pension system. The purpose of the reform is to streamline the management of the pension system’s buffer capital and integrate AP6 into the buffer fund system. The aim is to create a more effective, cost-efficient and long-term sustainable asset management, that strengthens the pension system and the financial security for Swedish pensioners. According to the decision, AP6’s assets and liabilities are transferred to AP2.
Some of AP6’s assets are transferred to AP2 to be included long-term in AP2’s private equity portfolio, while certain assets will be managed separately in a transition portfolio. The Government has decided which assets are to be managed separately. AP2 manages the transition portfolio with focus on creating value and generating liquidity, which over time will be transferred to AP2.
